Economic Base Camp

Every autumn since 2022, INESS has brought together some of Slovakia’s most curious young minds for four intensive days of economics, critical thinking, and genuine debate. In 2026, INESS is organizing the 5th edition of the Economic Base Camp.

The camp packs a weekend’s worth of ideas, workshops, and networking into four intensive days, combining lectures by leading economists, hands-on workshops, and informal networking.

The camp is designed for young people and students who follow current affairs and want to go beyond the headlines to understand how the economic and business world actually works. Participants tackle questions such as:

  • Where does our prosperity actually come from?
  • Why are we afraid of markets in healthcare?
  • What is the true cost of the state?
  • Inflation is here — now what?
  • Why is socialism dangerous?
  • What role does profit play, and are entrepreneurs actually good for society?

Beyond the formal program, evenings are left open for free-flowing discussions with the lecturers – often where the best conversations happen. Participants leave not only with a sharper economic toolkit, but with a network of like-minded peers from across Slovakia and a certificate of completion.

INESS is an independent, non-governmental and non-political civic association. All of our activities are financed by grants, 2% tax allocation, own activities and donations from individuals and legal entities. Thus, our operation, scope and quality of outputs, largely depends on your generosity.
